THE WHODUNNIT MANOR MURDER

The year is 1928….
You are Heracles Parrot, the famous detective.
You have been invited as a guest to a weekend house party at Whodunnit Manor, the country home of your friend, the renowned Egyptologist Sir Archibald Vairie-Smugg. Sir Archibald led last years successful expedition to Egypt, which resulted in the discovery of the famous “Eye of Bastet” also known as the “Jewel of the Nile”. Last month, the Jewel disappeared from the private collection in the Manor. So far, Sir Archibald has chosen not to involve the police. He suspects one of the expedition team to have taken this precious object with a view to a possible sale. Sir Archibald has invited all the members of the expedition for the weekend under the pretence of discussing a follow-up excursion to Egypt. His suspicions particularly fall upon Rex Fortesque a somewhat mysterious individual who claimed to be an expert in hieroglyphics and as such went on the original expedition.
After lunch on the first day of the weekend, you are asked to carry out a search of Rex Fortesque’s room while the remainder of the guests are out of the house on a pheasant shooting trip. You are assisted in your task by Slingsby the butler. Sir Archibald believes you could find the Eye of Bastet in the room and identify the name of Rex’s accomplice to whom he might pass the gem.
After breakfast on the second day of the weekend house party a man’s body is found in the cellars of Whodunnit Manor. The body is initially unidentified but it is possibly that of Rex’s accomplice. There are definite signs that the body has been moved into the cellar, but it is not clear where the body was moved from. It is also not immediately clear how or when he died. The possibility of foul play (murder) cannot be ruled out.
Sir Archibald asks you to investigate the mystery as much as possible before the police are called…
